Sunglasses for Wide Faces

How to choose sunglasses for a wide face: wider frames, square and oversized shapes, and fit checks to avoid pinching. From $30 a pair.

Look for width, not only size

A wide face needs a frame wide enough to sit on the ears without pinching. A frame that is too narrow looks small and can leave marks behind the ears.

Shapes that work

Square and oversized frames give the width a wide face needs. See the classic square and round styles and the oversized shapes.

Add angles or soften them

Angular frames balance a rounder wide face. A softer, rounder frame suits a wide, angular jaw. Our face shape guide explains both.

Fit checks

Frame arms should rest on your ears without pressing. Lenses should sit clear of your cheeks. If a pair pinches, return it within 14 days.

Colors

Dark and neutral frames are easy. Clear and light colors also work if the frame is large enough. See the lens color guide.

Buy more than one

If you are unsure of your size, order two shapes and keep the one that fits. Two pairs cost $52. See the bundle deals.

Quick checklist

Choose generous width, test the ears and cheeks, and keep a second shape in the order in case the first one pinches.

Common questions

Are oversized frames always best? No. Square frames with long arms can also fit well. See the shop page for all shapes.

Why width is the first thing to check

On a wide face, a narrow frame pinches at the temples and looks small. The frame should reach at least to the edge of your face, so the arms can run straight back instead of angling inward. Oversized and double-bridge frames give you that extra width.

Frames to try first

Oversized squares, double-bridge frames and larger classic squares keep the proportions balanced. Rounder shapes can also soften a strong jaw. Keep lenses tall enough to look in proportion with the width.

Fit test at home

Check three points. The arms should not press against your temples, the lower edge should not rest on your cheeks when you smile, and the frame should stay put when you tilt your head. If the arms flare out, the frame is too narrow.

Mix a bold pair with a simple one

A big, colored frame is fun for weekends, and a plain dark pair covers everything else. Two pairs are $52, and shipping is free from two pairs.
