Are Cheap Sunglasses Safe?
What to look for on a sunglasses listing before you trust a low price: stated UV rating, standard, honest descriptions and clear returns.
Price does not tell you protection
A low price does not mean a lens is unsafe, and a high price does not guarantee protection. Lens tint also does not show how much UV a lens blocks. What matters is the information the seller gives and the standard it meets.
What to look for
A stated UV rating or standard on the product page, a clear description of the lens, and a seller that gives contact details and a returns policy.
What we say about our lenses
Our lenses are non-prescription fashion lenses. We do not make UV protection claims on our product pages, so read each listing and choose what suits your use. If UV protection is important for you or for children, choose sunglasses that state a UV rating on the listing.
When to choose specialist eyewear
For sport, driving in strong glare or medical needs, choose eyewear made and rated for that use, and ask an eye-care professional if you are unsure.
More buying advice
Read how to buy sunglasses online and the lens color guide.
Reading UV labels
Listings may mention terms such as UV400 or a named standard. A label is only as reliable as the seller who makes it, so look for sellers that give clear contact details, a returns policy and honest product descriptions. If a listing makes a protection claim you cannot check, treat it with care.
Dark lenses are not the same as UV protection
A dark tint makes you squint less, but it does not by itself tell you how much UV light is blocked. A dark lens without UV protection can even let your pupils widen. That is why a stated rating matters more than how dark the lens looks.
Children
Children's eyes are still developing. If you are buying for a child, choose sunglasses that clearly state their UV protection and fit, and ask an eye-care professional if you are unsure.
Our approach
We describe our sunglasses as fashion glasses with non-prescription lenses. We do not claim UV protection on our product pages. If you need rated protection, choose eyewear that states it, and read our terms of sale and returns policy.
